KAYAK CARE, STORAGE & MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES
- Store the kayak in a shaded, well-ventilated area and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent UV degradation of the hull, sail materials, and fittings.
- Ensure the kayak is fully supported along the hull when stored on racks or stands. Avoid point-loading or uneven support that may distort the trimaran structure.
- Do not hang the kayak by handles, rigging points, or sail components, as these are not designed for load-bearing storage.
- Keep the mast, sail system, and rigging dry and properly stowed when not in use to prevent wear, corrosion, or fabric fatigue.
- Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after every use in saltwater environments, paying special attention to metal fittings, rigging hardware, centerboard housing, and fin systems.
- Regularly inspect all stainless steel fittings, Harken components, and fasteners for signs of corrosion or loosening.
- Apply light marine-grade silicone spray to moving parts such as pulleys, hinges, cleats, and adjustment systems to maintain smooth operation.
- Use appropriate marine-grade grease only where specified on mechanical or pivot components such as fin drive interfaces and centerboard mechanisms.
- Perform routine inspection of sail lines, cam cleats, and blocks to ensure proper tension and safe operation before each launch.
- Avoid over-tightening screws, bolts, and rigging fittings, as excessive force may damage composite materials or threaded inserts.
- When transporting, secure all loose components including mast sections, outriggers, and rigging to prevent vibration damage during travel.
- For long-term storage, slightly loosen rigging tension to reduce stress on sail systems and hardware.
